When it comes to applying for Medicare in CT it can become overwhelming. When you turn 65 or under 65 and have a qualifying disability or special circumstance you are eligible for Medicare. Most people who become eligible have already paid into Part A and will receive it with no additional premium. (You must be a legal resident and have paid in for the minimum qualifying quarters) Part B has a monthly premium of 170.10 for 2022 and some may qualify to have it paid by Medicare savings programs , based on eligibility.
Original Medicare is what is known as Part A and Part B . Enrollment is automatic for those who are drawing social security. If you are not drawing social security, you will need to enroll in Part A (if still working) and part B (if not working or choose to). When you are still employed and have qualified coverage from an employer in most cases Part A coverage is secondary to your group health plan from work. More and more people are choosing Medicare plans over traditional group employee coverage. Some companies now offer Medicare type plans.
This is based on individual preference, but 6 months prior gives a good cushion of time to start looking into Medicare options and get a "Medicare 101". You can enroll three months prior to your 65th birthday on the first of that month. You can speak with a broker before enrolling if you are a person who likes to plan ahead and get all their ducks in a row. You can enroll in Medicare online by Clicking Here .
